ABSTRACT Wilyanti, Winda. 2022. The Use of Elicitation Technique in Teaching Speaking to the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Dharma Bhakti Palembang. Thesis, English Education Study Program, Sarjana Degree (S1), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. Advisor:(I) Masagus Sulaiman, S.Pd., (II) Kurnia Saputri, S.Pd., M.Pd. Key Words: Teaching, Speaking and Elicitation Tecnique The formulation of the problem was Is there any significant effect of Elicitation on the students’ achievement being taught by using the Elicitation Technique?. The objective of is to find out the effect of using Elicitation Technique on students’ speaking achievement to the eighth grade students of SMP Dharma Bhakti Palembang. True Experimental was used in this study. The population of this study was all of the eighth grade students of SMP Dharma Bhakti Palembang consisting of 192 students from 6 classes, 64 students were chosen as the sample. As by convinience sampling. The test consisted of one material about social media. The data obtained were analized by Paired Sample T-test. The data were calculated by SPSS. The highest score in control group was 79, and the lowest score in control group was 53. And in experimental group the highest score was 89, and the lowest score in experimental group was 71. The result of the data analysis was showed that t-obtained was 11.113, where was the critical value was 2.042, at the significance of 5% and df 62. Since t-table was higher than critical value, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. It could be concluded that it was Effective to Teach Speaking by Using Elicitation Technique to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Dharma Bhakti Palembang.
