Abstract

One of the most basic aspects of planning is soil conditions. Subgrade which has a high bearing capacity is a factor that is highly expected in structural planning, for the reason that the strength of a structure will be directly affected by the subgrade in receiving and transmitting the load acting on the structure above it. One of the attempts to overcome the problem of unstable bearing capacity on the soil is by stabilizing the soil using blood clam shell powder to determine the value of the shear strength of the soil. Changes in the value of the shear strength of the soil can be seen by conducting a Triaxial UU test on a mixture of clay and blood clam shell powder with 10%, 20%, 25%, and 30% additional variation of the weight of the soil and ash from burning bricks with 4% additional variation which is then stored in plastic for 24 hours so that the water level is even. The steps in this research include the study of literature, the preparatory work involves taking soil samples, blood clam shells, and ash from burning bricks, preparing tools and materials, test object manufacturing, laboratory testing carried out with reference to the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard, analyzing the results of the calculation of the value of the soil shear angle, cohesion, and soil shear strength, which finally grasped into a conclusion. The results of the test showed that the addition of blood clam shell powder and ash from burning bricks could increase the value of the shear strength of the soil compared to the value of the original clay. The highest value of shear strength is the percentage addition of 25% with the value of shear strength obtained is 35,724 kPa Keywords: Clay soil, stabilization, blood clam shell powder, ash from burning bricks, shear strength
