Abstract

Paper concrete is a building material made with paper, sand and portland cement. The paper used in this research is newsprint which is no longer used and is processed into pulp. This research was conducted to determine the compressive strength and split tensile strength of paper concrete by using several variations of the addition of nylon. The addition of nylon is expected to increase the compressive strength and split tensile strength, because nylon has a high degree of ductility, resistance to fatigue and abrasion, high strength and durability. Tests for compressive strength and split tensile strength were carried out when the concrete was 28 days old. This study used eight variations of adding nylon 0%, 0.75%, 1%, 1.25%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.25%, and 2.5% to the total weight of cement. The results of the value of compressive strength for paper concrete aged 28 days in nylon fiber mixtures. concrete began to decline. While the results of the split tensile strength of paper concrete aged 28 days using a mixture of nylon fibers. So that the results of the maximum tensile strength value of paper concrete on the percentage of addition of 2% nylon by weight of cement is 1.53 Mpa.
