Abstract

Concrete is a fairly heavy building material, with a volume weight of around 2400 kg / m3. The concrete used in this research is concrete type K-225 with a mixture of styrofoam waste. Styrofoam is widely used in everyday life, including for decoration, building mockups and serving containers for ready-toeat dishes. Until now, many researches on Styrofoam have been carried out for the utilization of waste into a better function. This research was conducted to examine the effect of adding styrofoam on the compressive strength of concrete, with a ratio of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% to the total volume of coarse and fine aggregate of K-225 concrete. The test object was a cube with a size of 15 cm x 15 cm, 2 pieces without styrofoam and 10 pieces with the addition of styrofoam. The results showed that the addition of the styrofoam composition resulted in a decrease in the compressive strength of concrete from 28.4 MPa to 14.0 MPa in a 10% styrofoam mixture, 11.9 MPa in a 20% styrofoam mixture, 8.62 MPa in a 30% styrofoam mixture, 7, 69 MPa for 40% styrofoam mixture, and 5.97 MPa for 50% styrofoam mixture.
