Abstract

One of the weaknesses of concrete is that it has a low tensile strength. The value of the tensile strength of concrete ranges from 9% - 15% of its compressive strength. This causes the concrete to be brittle or less ductile. With the development of reinforced concrete research technology, often adding material to the concrete to increase the tensile strength of the concrete, then adding fibers to the concrete mixture is carried out. In this study, the added fiber used was in the form of pieces of steel wire with a diameter of 0.3 mm, a length of 50 mm and a variation in the percentage of addition of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% of the weight of cement with a cube-shaped specimen (15 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm). Concrete mixtures with the addition of 5% steel wire cut have the highest characteristic concrete compressive strength, which is 352.91 kg/cm² for 28 days old concrete. While the compressive strength of the characteristic concrete produced in normal concrete is 298.71 kg/cm², normal concrete + 1% addition of steel wire pieces is 313.42 kg/cm², normal concrete + 2% addition of steel wire pieces is 319.23 kg/cm², normal concrete + the addition of 3% pieces of steel wire is 330.12 kg/cm², and normal concrete + additional pieces of steel wire 4% is 339.75 kg/cm², so it can be concluded that the addition of pieces of steel wire can increase the compressive strength concrete.
